About PDFCheck
PDFCheck is a set of web tools for inspecting and preparing PDF files: reading metadata, running basic validity checks, looking for generator indicators, checking signatures, and compressing, splitting, merging or converting documents. It is operated by BusinessPress and runs at pdfcheck.online.
What PDFCheck is for
Most PDFs carry information about themselves: which program produced them, when they were created and last modified, how many pages they have, whether they are encrypted, signed or tagged. PDFCheck reads that information and presents it in a report you can keep or share by private link. The other tools help with common follow-up tasks, such as making a file smaller before sending it or removing document information fields before publishing it.
The service is meant for practical checks: a recruiter looking at how a CV was produced, an accounts team checking an invoice before payment, a student confirming that an export kept its fonts, or a developer testing what their PDF library writes into a file. Each report shows the raw values it was based on, so you can judge the result yourself.

Where it runs
Besides the website, PDFCheck has a Chrome extension and an iPhone app, and developers can use its checks through a REST API and through an MCP server that AI assistants can call. The API and MCP documentation describes request formats, quotas and data handling.
How to read our results
PDFCheck reports describe what a file says about itself. Metadata can be edited, removed or copied by any PDF program, so a report cannot prove who wrote a document, whether it is authentic, or whether it meets a formal standard. Labels are worded to match what was actually checked: a validator result says "Basic checks passed", not "Verified", and an AI-indicator result names the software it matched rather than calling a document human or machine-written.
The methodology pages below describe each analysis step by step, including the thresholds we use, worked examples and the cases where the method gives misleading answers.
How uploaded files are handled
File handling depends on the tool. The metadata checker, validator, AI-indicator check, accessibility checker, signature checker and comparison read the upload from temporary request storage and do not copy it into long-term storage. Tools that create a download, such as compression, merging, splitting, conversion and editing, keep working files on the server; an hourly cleanup removes files older than 24 hours.
Report data such as extracted metadata and check results is stored so you can reopen it. Guest reports are deleted after 90 days; reports owned by an account remain until the account is deleted. AI PDF Chat and scanned-page OCR send excerpts or page images to an outside AI provider, and optional virus scanning can contact VirusTotal. The Privacy Policy lists every case and provider.
Technology
Pages and uploads are transferred over HTTPS. Core tools run on the PDFCheck server with open-source PDF software, including Poppler, Ghostscript and the smalot/pdfparser library. Document content goes to outside providers only for AI Chat, scanned-document OCR and configured virus scanning, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Plans
The Free plan includes 100 checks a day and uploads up to 50 MB, and most tools can be used without an account. Pro removes the daily check limit, raises the upload limit to 100 MB and adds up to 50 virus scans a day. The AI plan includes everything in Pro plus AI PDF Chat with 1,000 messages a month.
Organisations that need the tools inside their own infrastructure can request PDFCheck Private, a self-hosted and branded installation of the tools that run without outside services.
Who operates PDFCheck
PDFCheck is built and operated by UAB BusinessPress, a software company registered in Lithuania (company code 306879202, Kumelių g. 1-2, LT-44281 Kaunas). The service started as pdf.businesspress.io and moved to its own domain, pdfcheck.online, in 2026.
Eimantas Kasperiūnas, the company's founder and a software developer, writes the code, runs the servers and reviews every guide before it is published. Corrections and questions go to admin@pdfcheck.online.

Guides and tool explanations follow our editorial policy: we describe features a visitor can use today, state their limits next to the claim, and do not publish ratings, testimonials or usage figures we cannot support.
