How PDF to image conversion works

Each page of your PDF is rendered to an image on our server by Ghostscript. You pick PNG or JPG and a resolution from 72 to 600 DPI. PNG output is 24-bit RGB and JPG output uses quality 95. Text and line art are anti-aliased so edges look smooth. Every page is converted, and all images are also bundled into one ZIP archive.

  1. Upload and options

    Choose one PDF, an output format and a DPI. The defaults are PNG and 150 DPI.

  2. Rendering

    Ghostscript renders every page to page_001, page_002 and so on. The run stops after 300 seconds.

  3. Packaging

    The uploaded PDF is deleted and the images are zipped together.

  4. Preview and download

    The results page shows each image with its own download button, plus a button for the whole set as pdf_images.zip.

Options explained Limits and what it does not do
PNG
Lossless 24-bit RGB, best for text, diagrams and screenshots. Pages are rendered on a white background with no transparency.
JPG
Compressed at quality 95. Smaller for photos and scans, but sharp text edges can show slight artefacts.
72 and 150 DPI
An A4 page comes out at about 595 x 842 pixels at 72 DPI, or 1240 x 1754 at 150 DPI.
300 and 600 DPI
About 2480 x 3508 or 4961 x 7016 pixels for A4. Use these for print or close zooming.

Limits and what it does not do

  • Output is PNG or JPG only. There is no WebP, TIFF or SVG output.
  • Every page is converted; this tool has no page range option.
  • Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first. Long documents at 600 DPI can hit the 300-second limit.
  • One file per run, up to 50 MB on the free plan and 100 MB on Pro and AI plans.

Questions

Does this extract the pictures stored inside a PDF?

This tool renders every full page, including its text and layout, as a PNG or JPG image. Use Extract Images when you need the embedded bitmap pictures separately. PDF to Image has no page-range control; split pages first if you only need selected ones.

Which DPI should I pick?

Use 150 DPI for screens and slides, 300 DPI for print, and 600 DPI only for fine detail. Doubling the DPI roughly quadruples the pixel count and file size.

How long are the images kept?

The PDF is deleted right after conversion. Images and the ZIP are stored under a random token and deleted by the hourly cleanup once older than 24 hours. The results page only opens in your session, but anyone with a direct image link can open that image until then.

Does converting use a daily check?

Yes, one check per successful conversion, however many pages the PDF has. Guests and free accounts get 100 checks a day, and a failed conversion does not use one.
