How do I install the extension?

  1. Download the extension from the Chrome Web Store or from our extension page.
  2. Click "Add to Chrome" and confirm the permissions.
  3. The PDFCheck icon will appear in your browser toolbar.

How do I analyze a PDF?

There are two ways to analyze a PDF:

  • Drag & drop: Open the extension popup and drag any PDF file onto the drop zone.
  • Browse: Click "browse" in the drop zone to select a PDF from your computer.

What does the extension check?

PDFCheck analyzes your PDF for:

  • Metadata: Title, author, creator, producer, creation date, modification date, PDF version, and page count.
  • AI detection: Identifies if the PDF was generated by AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, ReportLab, PyPDF, WeasyPrint, and 30+ others.
  • Verification: Structure validation, metadata completeness, and encryption status.

How does page scanning work?

Click "Scan this page" in the popup to discover all PDF links on the current webpage. You can then click any found PDF to analyze it directly — without downloading it first.

Is the extension free?

Yes, the extension is completely free to use. You get 10 free PDF checks per day without an account. Create a free account for additional checks.

What data does the extension collect?

PDFCheck respects your privacy:

  • PDF files are sent to our server over HTTPS. The original checker upload is not retained after the request; result metadata is retained according to our Privacy Policy.
  • No browsing history or personal data is collected.
  • Page scanning runs locally in your browser — no data is sent until you explicitly analyze a file.
  • The extension only communicates with pdfcheck.online.

What permissions does the extension need?

Troubleshooting

The extension shows "Could not connect to server"

  • Check your internet connection.
  • Try again in a few minutes — the server may be temporarily unavailable.
  • Make sure your browser is not blocking requests to pdfcheck.online.

File analysis is failing

  • Ensure the file is a valid PDF (not a renamed file).
  • Check that the file is under 100 MB.
  • Try analyzing the file directly on pdfcheck.online.

"Daily limit reached" message

Free users get 10 checks per day. The limit resets at midnight UTC. To increase your limit, create a free account on PDFCheck.

Page scan finds no PDFs

  • The page may not contain any PDF links.
  • Some websites load PDF links dynamically — try scrolling to load all content first.
  • PDFs embedded in iframes may not be detected.
